October 50-state milk production at 18.7 billion pounds, with daily output down 0.5% year-over-year.
First Impressions:
Supportive. US milk production fell 0.5% in October, lighter than the Ever.Ag Insights model and down from September’s -0.1% decline.
Cow numbers declined during October, but given an upward revision to the September data, the herd size remained steady with the prior report. Still, it’s the continuation of a seven-month trend of steady-to-lower cow numbers.
No major changes in trend – the western and southwestern states continue to lag behind, with Arizona being the only state west of the Rockies to show any growth. The Midwest, Mideast and New York continue to grow.
